About
Sigri Estate plantation was established in the 1950s. Originally planted by missionaries the main varieties are
Typica derivatives from Jamaica Blue Mountain rootstock with small amounts of Mundo Novo, Maragogype,
and Bourbon. A special Maragogype microlot project is underway, the first harvest anticipated in 2020.
The estate employs ecological organic practices, prioritizing soil and water conservation while utilizing two
types of shade trees. By special request the hand picked cherry is dried on raised beds and conditioned an
additional 21 days. Densometric, color, and hand sorting reduce defect count to less than 2%.
Free housing, healthcare, and child education are provided for plantation farmers and pickers alike. Sigri
Estate is also a major contributor to the community at large from maintaining local roads and bridges to running
the largest AIDS post in the country.
