Santa Ines Brazil

from 16.00

Region: Carmo de Minas, State of Minas Gerais

Farm: Fazenda Santa Inês

Variety/Cultivar: Yellow Bourbon

Altitude: 900-1050 masl

Process: Pulped-Natural

As part of the Sertão Family Group Jose and Nazareth Pereira inherited 530 acre, Fazenda Santa Inês in 1979. The constantly developing infrastructure has included a switch from one harvest “stripping” methods to hand picking only ripe cherry, more diverse varieties such as Acaiá, a hybrid of Mundo Nuvo found mainly above 800m, and the use of mechanical depulpers. Water from washing tanks and depulpers is recycled, the resulting residue used in settling ponds, and pulp husks become fertilizer.

The permanent team of family workers is not simply provided quality living conditions but also leisure opportunities in the form of soccer fields, fishing ponds, and youth classes like swimming and Karate through Project CriaCarmo.

A region well known for its mineral springs, mountainous terrain, and ideal latitude with well defined seasons farms throughout Carmo de Minas have historically placed in Brazil Cup of Excellence with Santa Inês scoring a world record 95.85 in 2005.
